Aruna Shanbaug. I was wondering whether I have seen this name before it became the breaking news yesterday.
Yes. I think I have - but the silly tussle of everyday life dumped it somewhere into my garbage memory. Ideally that should not have been the case. I never realized the true significance of this name and the uproar around it.
Today, reading about the life behind this name, in the front page of ‘The Hindu’, how it was throttled into a permanent vegetative state four decades back almost left me teary-eyed. Death has arrived as a much longing relief and now the soul has escaped into the realm of true peace.
Being human I was feeling equally ashamed and proud. Ashamed of all the barbaric things happened to that solitary soul. And proud of the 42 years of “iconic” effort by KEM Nurses who reminded us there are few "humans" left among us. Infact, that is the only hope we all are left with, isn't it?!
