In a meditative mood at the pond side ;) Onam-2019 |
What makes Onam so special? Tradition, culture, food, family, friends - we all have several clichéd answers for this. However, let us go deep, go deeper and deeper - can we find where all these answers derive from? I did my own analysis with my limited realm of thoughts and feelings and reached down into an interesting and unassuming answer - and that is "Collective Meditation"! Yes, I found the "Meditative" nature of Onam is something which transforms this simple festival into a festival of all, a festival for all!
I am trying to get into the details of my thoughts and feelings.
Onam, we celebrate with our family, celebrate with our friends, celebrate our culture, celebrate our tradition - but in the background of our all these, during Onam days we all transform ourselves into a sort of "meditative" mood. This "meditation" happens rather unconsciously somewhere in the background of our mind as we go about with our celebrations!
As the Onam vibes set in, we all unconsciously tend to look into our inner self - we dive into our memories, our childhood, our moments with nature, the aroma of homely recipes, moments of family togetherness, affection of grandparents, the idle time with friends sans heavy thoughts and all those moments which enriched our old Onam days. Many of those may not be relevant today or may not be present now, but our mind traverses through those bright, positive moments of our life dispersed across several spans of the timeline. We call it with various names - nostalgia, rich old days etc. In fact, on these days, our mind is primarily focusing only on those beautiful moments of our life and "meditate" on those alone! Along with this, the Nature also goes into "meditative" mode by soothing all with its mild breeze and studding the surroundings with tiny bright coloured flowers visited by little butterflies! "Meditation" of positive things always bring bliss, happiness, joy and naturally when the entire people of a land and its landscape together go into this "collective meditation" it turns into a unique celebration which they alone can decipher! And we call it ONAM!
So let us meditate on positivism always, feel the Onam vibes always in our heart, even in the sighs of desperation. Wishing all Heartfelt Meditation and Happy Onam!
